Pace Calculator (Running Pace, Time and Distance)

Solve for pace, finish time or distance, with 5K, 10K, half and full marathon presets.

Pace = time ÷ distance. A 5K run in 25:00 is a pace of 5:00 per km, or 8:03 per mile, which is 12 km/h (7.46 mph).

How to use it

  1. Choose what to solve for: pace, time or distance.
  2. Enter the other two values, or tap a race preset.
  3. Read pace per km and per mile, speed and finish times at the same pace.

What you enter

What you get

Formula

Pace = time ÷ distance | Time = pace × distance | Speed (km/h) = 60 ÷ pace (min/km)

Worked example

Input: 5 km in 25:00

Result: 5:00/km, 8:03/mile, 12.0 km/h

Holding that pace gives a 10K in 50:00 and a half marathon in 1:45:29.

Questions

How do I calculate my running pace?

Divide total time by distance. 50 minutes for 10 km is 5:00 per km. Divide by 1.609 to go from per-mile to per-km pace.

What pace do I need for a sub-4-hour marathon?

5:41 per km or 9:09 per mile, held for all 42.195 km.

What is a good 5K time?

For recreational runners, 25–35 minutes is common. Under 25 minutes is strong for most age groups; elite men run under 13 minutes.

How do I convert min/km to min/mile?

Multiply the pace in minutes per km by 1.609. 5:00/km × 1.609 = 8:03/mile.
