# Diatomaceous Earth for Fleas: Does It Work?

## Safety: Respiratory and Eye Risks

DE is marketed as "natural," and owners often assume that means harmless. That assumption causes most of the injuries associated with it.

**Inhalation is the main concern.** Any fine silica powder can irritate the airways.
