Finding Healthy Stock

Start with a breeder who can tell you the age, sex ratio, and health history of the birds they are selling. Ask about parasite history, previous mortality events, and whether the flock has been in contact with wild birds or ground that wild birds use. They are a reasonable fit for keepers who want a native species, who are willing to build appropriate housing, who understand that breeding follows the seasons, and who are prepared to work with a veterinarian when disease appears.
